Serrated Steel Grating
Serrated steel grating uses bearing bars with a toothed top edge that bites through water, oil and light ice films to give footwear a positive grip. It is the specified anti-slip option for outdoor walkways, oily platforms, ramps and stair treads — available in galvanized carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum, fabricated to your drawings.

What is serrated steel grating?
Serrated steel grating is welded bar grating whose bearing bars carry a notched, tooth-like top edge. The serrations cut through water, oil and light ice films so footwear makes contact with the bar itself, giving measurably better grip than a plain flat surface in slippery conditions.
It is specified wherever slip risk is elevated: outdoor walkways exposed to rain and snow, process plant platforms with oil or chemical films, inclined ramps, and stair tread nosings. Because the teeth remove a small amount of bar material, the effective section is slightly reduced — load capacity is confirmed against span, load type and support conditions during specification, exactly as with plain grating.

Toothed heavy bearing bars for vehicle areas where surfaces are wet or oily — capacity confirmed against span, wheel load and support conditions.
Serration across materials
Serration is formed in the top edge of the bearing bar, so the tooth profile must be matched to both the material and the expected contamination. Carbon-steel teeth can be finished after fabrication; the inspection should confirm that the selected coating has not filled or softened the working edges. Stainless-steel serrations suit wet cleaning, chloride exposure or hygiene-controlled areas when the grade and post-fabrication treatment are confirmed together. Aluminum can provide a lighter serrated surface, but its profile and wear rate must be reviewed for the traffic, grit and maintenance cycle rather than treated as a direct substitute for steel.
- Carbon steel: preserve the specified tooth geometry through fabrication and finishing
- Stainless steel: select 304 or 316L from the exposure and cleaning regime, then passivate as specified
- Aluminum: confirm alloy, surface profile and allowable wear for the stated pedestrian or maintenance traffic
- Any material: use plain grating where the surface is dry and clean and serration adds no useful risk reduction

Fabrication & Quality Notes
- Serration is rolled into the bearing bar before welding; tooth profile is checked on incoming material.
- Serrated panels are welded, cut and banded to the same drawings and tolerances as plain grating.
- Load checks account for the reduced effective section of serrated bars at the confirmed span.
- Galvanizing follows fabrication so teeth, welds and cut edges are fully coated.
