An accurate steel grating quotation needs twelve pieces of information: application, environment, load requirement, support span, panel size with span direction, material, surface treatment, surface type, quantity, installation method, drawings, and packaging or marking requirements. Application and environment select the material and finish; load and span fix the bearing bar size; panel sizes with the span direction marked prevent the classic — and dangerous — mistake of spanning the wrong direction; quantity in pieces, square meters or tons sets the price basis. Drawings, even sketches, remove ambiguity: they show cut-outs, banding, toe plates and clip positions that a parts list cannot express. Missing any of these forces assumptions, and assumptions become either inflated prices or wrong specifications. The span rule you must not break

Bearing bars carry the load; cross bars only tie the grid together. Panels must be supported on the two ends of the bearing bars. If a drawing mixes up length and width so the cross bars span between supports, the panel will fail. Always mark the span direction on panel lists and drawings.
