Engineered Around Your Load & Span
Stainless Steel Grating
Stainless steel grating serves environments where coated carbon steel is not enough: chemical plants, food and pharmaceutical production, wastewater treatment and coastal sites. Corrosion resistance is built into the material, so welds and cut edges need no coating — supplied in SS304/304L and SS316/316L with mill, passivated, blasted or electro-polished finishes.
- SS304 / 304L for general corrosive and hygienic duty
- SS316 / 316L with molybdenum for chloride exposure
- Pickled, passivated, blasted or electro-polished finishes
- Welded and fabricated to your drawings

What is stainless steel grating?
Stainless steel grating is welded bar grating made from corrosion-resistant stainless alloys. SS304 covers most food, architectural and general corrosive duties; molybdenum-bearing SS316/316L resists chlorides in marine, coastal and chemical service.
Unlike galvanized carbon steel, corrosion resistance is in the material itself, so cut edges and welds need no coating — though pickling and passivation after welding restore the full protective oxide layer, and electro-polishing adds a smooth, hygienic surface where cleanability is specified.
Grade selection follows the actual media, concentration, temperature and cleaning regime — tell us the environment and we will recommend the practical grade rather than defaulting to the most expensive option.

Variants
Recommended Types
SS304 / 304L general-duty grating
The workhorse grade for food processing, breweries, architectural and general corrosive environments.
SS316 / 316L chloride-resistant grating
Molybdenum-bearing grade for marine air, salt spray, chemical and wastewater service.
Electro-polished hygienic grating
Smooth, bright surface for sanitary zones where cleanability and appearance are specified.
Serrated stainless grating
Toothed bearing bars for wet process floors, marine walkways and stairs needing grip plus corrosion resistance.
Choosing between 304 and 316L
Choose the stainless grade from the actual exposure rather than the industry label alone. SS304 or 304L is the practical starting point for many indoor food, beverage and general washdown areas. Where salt spray, chloride-bearing process water or chloride-based cleaners reach the grating, SS316L provides greater resistance, but it is not immune to every concentration or stagnant deposit.
Temperature, contact time, cleaner chemistry and rinse practice can change the corrosion risk. A hot solution or a cleaner left in crevices may be more severe than an occasional cool wash, so the project review should record both the process media and the cleaning cycle. The low-carbon L grades are normally preferred for welded fabrication where the specification requires them.
Fabrication treatment is part of the material decision. Welding heat tint and shop contamination are removed by the specified pickling process, followed by passivation to restore a clean protective surface. Bead blasting is mainly an appearance treatment, while electro-polishing is selected where a smoother, more cleanable finish is required.
- SS304 / 304L: a common starting point for indoor and general hygienic service
- SS316L: review for salt spray, chloride-bearing liquids and more aggressive cleaning regimes
- Confirm media, concentration, temperature, contact time and rinse conditions before fixing the grade
- Specify post-fabrication pickling and passivation; add electro-polishing only where the finish function requires it
Fabrication & QC
Fabrication & Quality Notes
- Stainless panels are welded and fabricated with dedicated tooling and handling to avoid carbon steel contamination.
- Welds are pickled and the whole panel passivated to restore the protective oxide layer after fabrication.
- Material traceability is maintained with mill test certificates for each batch.
- Panels are checked for dimensions, spacing, weld appearance and surface finish against the agreed sample.
Packaging
Packaging & Delivery
- Stainless panels packed separately from carbon steel, with protective interleaving against scratches and iron contamination.
- Steel frame crates for electro-polished or high-value panels.
- Numbered stainless panel tags are isolated from finished faces, with the packing list keyed to the approved layout.
